The first feature on ‘How to Build a Café Racer’ struck a chord. Not everybody who read it agreed with the content, but when it comes to style, there are several different schools of taste. I’m going to focus on the performance side of building a cafe racer.Or street tracker, scrambler, or any custom motorcycle, for that matter. The bike which is named the Denim Demon is based on a Honda CR250 (above) but you’d be hard pressed recognising it now. The Honda dirt bike has been transformed in to a bare bones road racer which McElroy has tagged as a member of the Smoking Seagulls (a set of Cafe Racer style custom motorcycles previously produced by McElroy and Roland Sands). The Honda CB250 Cafe Racer you see here is built by Blackbean Motorcycles, a German workshop in the heart of Munich. They picked one of the last models from 1976 and since the bike was pretty old, they started with a complete engine overhaul in order to get the desired performance of the lovely parallel twin.
